What Is Your Why?

WHY DO YOU EXIST?…. By you, I mean why does your company or department exist? This is your ‘Why’, as Simon Sinek describes, but it also defines your ‘Mission’.

Many people confuse Vision and Mission statements, but they serve different purposes, as we make clear to manager in our Strategic Planning for Managers course.

Your Vision is what you aim to achieve in the future – your ultimate goal, ideally with a timeline.

  • Your Mission is your purpose – the reason your organisation exists.
  • When crafting a Mission statement, use the present simple tense. For example:

“We provide high-quality interactive training courses for organisations, empowering their managers and employees with the knowledge and skills needed to achieve better results.”

That’s our Mission – what’s yours?

Why not take a moment to write yours down.

What is it you do, and why does your organisation or department exist?

When it comes to change, don’t use the ‘Nike’ approach

When change becomes necessary, avoid the 'Nike' approach of simply telling your employees, "Just do it!" This often leads to the most resistance from your team when it comes to change management. In reality, there are several effective strategies that can help managers gain buy-in from their team...
